Two Stage Vs. Three Stage Filters
Our customers will choose a two or three stage filter depending on the results they wish to achieve with the water at their property. If better tasting and healthier water is all you are after then generally with Perth water a two stage filter is sufficient. The Polyspun sediment filter removes dirt, rust and small particles and the Activated Carbon cartridge will remove chemicals that cause bad taste and odours.
The two stage filter has the benefits of:
- Sediment and chemical removal for healthier and tastier water
- Lower install costs and ongoing cartridge replacement costs
- High flow filtration so that there is no noticeable pressure loss in the house,
- Greater contact time for better impurity removal
- It's suitable for large homes with 2 or more bedrooms
- Brass thread connections to stop housing cracking
The cons of a two stage system are:
- Doesn't reduce hard water
The three stage filter systems do all of the above but also have a high capacity water softening resin filter cartridge to reduce hard water by up to 80%. This is designed to reduce calcium build up on fixtures, in appliances and on shower screens. It also produces better water for washing and showering.
The three stage filter has the benefits of:
- Sediment, chemicals and hard water removal
- High flow filtration so that there is no noticeable pressure loss in the house,
- Greater contact time for better impurity removal
- It's suitable for large homes with 2 or more bedrooms
- Brass thread connections to stop housing cracking
- Pressure gauge viewing to indicate the need for filter changes
The cons of a three stage system are:
- Slightly higher install cost
- Doesn't remove 100% of Minerals that cause hard water
- Higher ongoing filter replacement costs with the extra filter

What’s the difference between a three stage and two stage whole house filter?
Our two stage filters include a 20" Jumbo Fibron Carbon 5 Micron filter to remove chlorine, offensive taste and odours combined with superior capacity sediment removal and a 20" Jumbo Polyspun Sediment 5 Micron filter that remove sediment and are designed to maintain high flow rates while dealing with high sediment loads. Three stage filters include a third filter that reduces the hardness of water removing scale. Softener cartridges will remove about 80% of the minerals that cause hard water
What’s the difference between a whole house filter and an under-sink or reverse osmosis system?
A whole house filter treats all the water entering your home — every tap, shower, and appliance. Under-sink and reverse osmosis systems only filter water at one point (usually your kitchen tap) and are focused on drinking and cooking water.
What is the quoting process?
We will book in a plumbing technician to come to your home and see what needs to be done to get a filtration system installed. We try so put them in a suitable location and close to the water main. This keeps the cost low aiming for a "standard" install. Once we have confirmed where the system can go we will provide a price for the installation.
Do I really need a whole house water filter if my tap water looks clean?
Even clear water can contain invisible contaminants like chlorine, pesticides, and microplastics. Whole house systems not only improve water quality for drinking — they also protect your skin, hair, appliances, and plumbing.
How do I know which water filter is right for my home?
We offer free in-home assessments to test your water, inspect your plumbing, and recommend the best system for your needs — whether it’s a whole house, under-sink, or reverse osmo
How long does installation take?
Most systems can be installed in half a day to a full day, depending on your plumbing setup. We’ll give you a clear time estimate when we assess your home.
When can I get it installed?
We can usually install the day of quote approval.
Will it filter my outdoor taps and sprinkler water too?
Whole house filters do — they treat all water entering your property, including outdoor taps and hoses. Great if you want to reduce chlorine on your garden or car. However, the filters are normally installed after the take off point for your sprinkler system. This reduces the frequency the filters need to be changed
How often do the filters need to be changed?
It depends on the system and your water quality. Most filters need replacing every 6 to 12 months. We’ll let you know the recommended schedule and can remind you when it’s due.
Will the filters fix my Eczema?
While many of our customers notice a difference in skin and hair, we cannot make any claim that any filter installed will cure any health conditions.

Even as a plumber myself, I didn't really believe that water filters made that much of a difference on our water supply until I installed one myself at my home.
